Scat ~ Carl Hiaasen
“How could a teacher possibly disappear on a field trip?” Scat, by Carl Hiaasen, is a realistic fiction/mystery book. It is one of the best books I have read. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys mysteries and wants to protect nature.
A school field trip ends horribly when a fire catches at Black Vine Swamp. Ms. Starch goes back into the fire to retrieve someone’s inhaler, but does not come back! Two of her students, Nick and Marta, worry about her and start trying to find clues about her disappearance. When they sneak into her house one night, they weren’t the only ones there! When the intruder forces them into his car, he tells them, “Never to speak of this again!”
My favorite part of the book is when they finally find what they have been looking for the entire time. “Panther scat!” I would rate this book an eight out of ten. It is very entertaining and it keeps you wondering about what happens next!

The Sense of Taste!
My most favorite sense of all would have to be taste. All of the other senses are important too, but taste gives you the opportunity to explore the flavors of the food. Taste makes my life better by being able to know what I am eating. I am allergic to peanuts, so when I was little, one of the ways I knew I was eating peanuts or peanut butter was by the taste of it!
If I didn’t have the sense if taste, I wouldn’t get to taste the juicy goodness of a burger, or the sweet taste of candy. If people say, “Wow, this is amazing!”, I wouldn’t be able to actually taste it for myself! Without taste, I would feel like I am missing part of myself. Taste is special to me, and I hope I never lose this sense!
Friendship
Friendship is captivating,
Friendship is caring.
Friendship is trust,
Friendship is daring.
Friendship is something we can never explain.
Friendship is important, just like you!
I am now going to say that this is the end,
So goodbye to you, a friend so true!
Passing Away
Passing Away
As soon as I got out of school for the break, I went to go see my grandma. She just got out of the hospital for having gallstones, a sickness you can get in your gallbladder. She wasn’t doing so well after she got out, so she had to have some tests done. The doctor said that she had cancer, and that was what had caused the gallstones. He predicted that my grandma only had three weeks to live. All of the family soon knew, and relatives started coming in from out of town. The three weeks quickly turned into three days. I went to see her the first day and the second day. Later in the evening of the second day, I asked my dad if we would be able to see her on Wednesday. He said that we probably would, but the next day when he came home from work, he told me she was gone. I was really sad, but happy in a way because she wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. The following days were hard, but with family and friends of family around me, I started to feel better. As the days past, I began to become myself again. We soon said goodbye to everybody and everything was back to normal, except that I no longer had my grandma.
My Most Memorible Moment Idea
I have an idea for my most memorable moment for our Christmas break. I know it is kind of early into our break, but something has happened that I want to share. It might change, but I am pretty sure this is it. It isn’t necessarily a good thing, but in a way it is. Check in January 2nd to see it. I hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas break so far! Thanks! 🙂
Thanksgiving
I know this is kind of late, but I wanted to share about my Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving my family and I got to go to my dad’s mom’s house (grandma). We played all kinds of games. I had an awesome time there. That wasn’t the only place we went though. The next day we went to my mom’s mom’s (My Meme) new house about twenty minutes away from Lufkin in a small town called Applesprings. We ate our Thanksgiving dinner, then my cousin and I went and petted the horses next door. We got to get in their pen and played around with them. I loved this year’s Thanksgiving, and I can’t wait for Christmas!
The Little Cafe
The Little Cafe
I can now see the cafe;
smell the homemade meals,
and somehow, already, taste the food.
We drank sweet tea and soda out of mason jars,
while we ate off of plates unique in every way.
I spy ranchers, hunters, and even a sheriff!
Our waiter was nice, and so were the locals.
I never want to leave this little cafe,
but soon we leave, we’re going away.

The Big Wave
The Big Wave
The hot sand burned my feet as I ran down to the beach. Almost everyone I came with was already down there. I see my Dad up ahead carrying the paddle board. I already knew it was going to be a great day!
As I am running into the water, I see my uncle and my two cousins with their surf board out in the water. Now here comes my dad. He told me that today we are going to be surfing. Of course I was excited, but I was also nervous. I guess I was the last person to ask to go, but my turn finally came!
It seemed that all of the big waves to surf on died down. But to soon there was a huge wave! At first I didn’t want to go. Thank goodness that my Dad was there to encourage me! It was coming closer and all of a sudden, my Dad shoves the paddle board forward! I am sitting on the board as the big wave comes. I soon am on my knees. I was to scared to stand up all the way, but it still felt great! My legs were shaking crazily, but I ignored them and just enjoyed the ride. Soon my legs stopped shaking, and unfortunately, the ride stopped too.
It was one of my most memorable moments I have ever had, and I know for sure that the next time we go to any ocean, I am defiantly going to ask if we can go surfing!
